My wife and I love Apple Hill. Especially minus the crowds. My favorite time to be in Apple Hill is when there is snow on the ground and the fires pits are lit to get cozy in front of. My second favorite is after a rain. This weekend the rain was on and off but we managed to get there while it was dry but it wasn't that way for long. Extra coolness from the whisps of clouds and fog.
Apple Hill Snow
With the Calendar flipping to be more springy I had possibly my last opportunity to go to a snowy apple hill. So as the storm cleared out I headed up the hill before it was blossom season. By the time I got there the snow was receeding quickly. But, I made it one more time before the sun wont go away.
I hit Boa Vista Orchards as it's the only one open year round and got some apple goodness. You know, donuts and strudel. Then went a little higher into Apple Hill past Larsen's taking the back roads very slowly in case of black ice and even stumbled on a few dear before getting to Camino. But, my quest was further. The road framed with tall trees and snow was lovely as I made my way to Pollock Pines knowing I dare not venture much further in a RWD car. Snow season done but I was there one last time.
I'm a dork for snow so when it started raining I headed for the hills. I got off work early told everyone my plans with them laughing at me. But I did it. Left work and headed up the Apple Hill posting pictures on social media. I just had to touch the snow and get an apple donut. They wished I brought back donuts.
Having a day off work can be eventful. Honey Do list or blow it off and take a Road Trip to Apple Hill for it's #1 Product: Apples. The wife was even ok with trip but she was at work and I tried (read tried) not to gloat to hard about being in Apple Hill.
Don't know Apple Hill? How dare you. Find it just past Placerville on the left and find all the Apple goodness at so many apple orchards. Note: it is more that apples. But, how can you pass them up with so many easily accessible. Thanks Johnny Appleseed.
