Paul McCartney at Golden 1 Center
We paid, we stayed overnight, we saw Paul McCartney, and we made local history by being at Golden 1 center opening night. There was no carmageddon for us as we planned well ahead and booked a room. It was a very orderly couple of blocks walk away. No drama having to find parking.
Sir Paul did a bang up show. Bringing his Rockstar to the almost three hour show. Started a bit late but everyone was in good spirits including the staff and police welcoming everybody.
Only two downers. The speakers up by the huge scoreboard were not working so the sound sounded like it was coming from below us. Minor issue. The bigger issue were the seats in the upper bowl. I know we bought nosebleeds but wow I didn't know we got free vertigo with that purchase. Somewhat joking but the seats were packed in at what seemed to be a very vertical pitch. Walking the stairs caused some pain my knee but mostly felt anxiety over the feel I was tipping over constantly. They say it was built to code and it's not that bad compared with others but the way I felt and several others felt actually being there looking down and having a weird perspective was a bit unnerving. So do yourself a favor. pay for better tickets.
Sacramento Mural Festival
The Sacramento Mural Festival went off this week on several Sacramento building walls adding to the few that are already sprinkled around town. Sacramento is getting on the Portland mural bandwagon and I like it.
From Alkali Flats to Southside through Midtown we drove side street to side street to capture the murals and the artists. Some were a bit further along than others and several still had the artists working on them when we got there. See below.
Brit Floyd a Pink Floyd tribute
Pics courtesy of Brit Floyd
The Convention Center was rocking and smelling like pot to the awesomeness of Pink Floyd tribute band Brit Floyd. Video screens, lasers, lights, and female backing vocals. It was bad ass and very loud with the monitors aiming directly at us upstairs.
Empress was built for those who are carnivores. Really high quality with some presentation and branding in a great space. Do yourself a flavor and have the short rib and gravy Poutine. What a way to go.
Crocker Art Museum
As a Bank Of America member certain weekends we get free access to museums. So Sunday we went to the Crocker for free on 2/7 and enjoyed the Ai Weiwei exhibit. It included giant sculptures of the Chinese New Years animals. I am an OX. It fits...... Elephant Seal might have also been fitting.
